habemus papam!

Me crying all day

HABEMUS PAPAM!!! We have a pope!!!

The way I feel like I haven’t stopped crying these past couple days because of our new pope, Pope Leo XIV.

Where was you when he was announced Pope?

I love sharing this story because I think I was just so mentally shocked and honestly a little overwhelmed at the time. Imagine this: 45 minutes earlier, you’re getting ready to work from home in your living room. You decide to put EWTN on YouTube, only to realize they weren’t going live. Instead, you notice their Third Smoke Live stream scheduled for later. So, you start searching and find another channel that is live. You click on it, and the first thing you see is white smoke.

At first, I thought, Why are they streaming footage of white smoke from the past?

Then it hit me—I was just in time for the smoke to come out! 😱 I was freaking out, trying to make sure I wasn’t imagining things. I jumped on social media, and there it was—confirmed! (AHHHH!)

Why are you so emotional
about a Pope?

Literally, why not?! When he first stepped onto the balcony, I watched how he took it all in, and I stood there thinking, I can’t even imagine what it must feel like to be loved by so many people, both there and all over the world.

There’s this specific shot that was captured—a side view of him—where you can see him becoming emotional, holding back tears. And, well, THAT’S ALL IT TOOK FOR ME. It was such a powerful moment. For me, it showed how much he understood the weight he would carry as the leader of our Church, as Peter’s Successor.

There was a real humanness in that moment that made me appreciate what our popes do—the incredible responsibility they bear. They carry the weight of the world, yet they are still just one person.

I think this resonates even more now because Pope Leo XIV is an American pope. There’s a certain relatability people are realizing—a reminder that a pope is not someone “higher” or “holier” than anyone else. They’re simply someone who loves the Lord.

Quotes I’ve Reflected by Pope Leo XIV

“God loves us, God loves you all, and evil will
not prevail!  All of us are in God’s hands.”

“The world needs his light.  Humanity needs
him as the bridge that can lead us to God and his love”

I ask that you join me in praying for pope leo xiv as he starts his papacy. May the holy spirit guide him to lead our church with love and hope.
